![]() The build of the upper is thicker than your average daily trainer and can run a bit hot when training in warmer climates. The mesh panels help to move hot air up and away from your feet, while the strategically placed leather overlays boost stability and lock these shoes firmly in place on your feet. What I also love about the design of this upper is that it is composed of a blend of mesh and synthetic overlays to boost breathability and stability. While the break-in period can be a little uncomfortable, a good pair of socks can help make the process a little bit easier until the foam padding starts to break in. At first, some runners found that this thick and padded heel collar rubbed blisters into their fit. It boasts a thick padded collar that really hugs your ankle and boosts overall lockdown. The upper in this design is packed with high-end cushioning that wraps your feet in 360 degrees of comfort. What you gain in durability and responsiveness you lose in endurance and agility. However, some runners found that the full-rubber outsole is a little stiff, and makes this shoe a bit too heavy for long-distance running. The thick rubber is incredibly bouncy and responsive and will add an extra spring to your step. Overall, I would suggest sticking to surfaces such as concrete or asphalt, or a rubber gym floor.īy crafting this outsole with a full rubber design with no exposed EVA foam, it can ride a little stiff. Some runners found that the grooved design in the heel can cause the heel to slip when running in grass or uneven surfaces on trailheads. This outsole offers a textured grip that sticks to the sidewalk, but might be a little less than ideal when running in grass or trails. The solid rubber outsole is incredibly durable and offers a nice and springy ride. The sock liner is nice and breathable and can be removed as needed. If the Charged midsole wasn’t enough cushioning, this daily trainer also includes an EVA sock liner for an extra jolt of cushioning. Not only does this midsole provide a nice and cushioned ride, but it also reduces the strain on your knees and joints while running. When you press down into this shoe, you can see the plush midsole collapse under the weight of your body. ![]() ![]() The Charged cushioning also helps to cut down on the impact when running on hard and unforgiving surfaces. It may feel a little blocky on those first initial runs but after a few miles the compression foam molds to the unique shape of your foot for a ride that feels as if it was customized for the unique shape of your feet. It’s just one of those shoes that just gets better the more that you wear them. This cushioning is composed of compression molded foam that really contours to the shape of your foot as you run. This demonstrates that the design of this shoe was most likely influenced by a desire for cross-training applications versus running long miles. The midsole is composed of UA’s proprietary Charged cushions for an incredibly responsive ride. Unfortunately, the desire for a lightweight trainer seems to have been overshadowed by the desire for thick leather protection around the toe. The addition of leather and the thickness of the upper makes for a shoe that is not very breathable. There is a lot of material making up the upper portion of the Charged Assert 9. Most likely, the midsole cushioning will break down prior to the outsole or upper wearing out.Īssert 9 provide a dense upper, with leather, that is not too breathable The upper materials also demonstrate their ability to endure for many miles. The rubber outsole will undoubtedly provide for a long life for the Assert 9. ![]() Daily training shoes have an average weight of 10.6oz/300g. Compared to other entry-level running shoes, such as the Saucony Cohesion 14, the Assert 9 are quite heavy. Size 12 of the Charged Assert 9 comes in at 11.40z/323g. The Assert 9 is heavier than other entry-level running shoes This prevents the feet from being stable, which allows for some heel-rubbing and movement on each foot-strike. The laces in the Assert 9 are extremely long and there is no additional eyelet at the top for locking down the heel. Your browser does not support the video tag. ![]()
